Should I look into this projector??

The thing is that I am not sure about where that lumen number comes from at all, I think that the lumen output of the projector could be higher as I could only hear the lumen output stated in maybe two website, and it is not stated in the manual, and it does seems quite low.

if its right then i have a GREAT deal on my hands 🙂 i bought OHP for 45$ its HUGE think of the retrofit possibilities....25 bulbs costs 149$ and total time is rated 1789 hours altogether. these lamps are known to go above rated life so im happy with this OHP 🙂

I am not sure, I will think about getting this one; I mean most crt projectors are only rated about the same for brightness so it might be bright enough, Will keep you posted.

hey the projector you mentioned, sounds like the projector I just bought at $400, its the Epson ELP3500, which has 650 lumens and uses the 100W 85V uhp bulb. the specs are here

doing some research the bulb costs $200++ each but it has a life of 4000 hours. Assuming I use 3hrs an average per day it could last me nearly 4 years without replacement (is my calculation correct?).

I really just bought it still in my car, can't wait to get home and try it out. cooolllll.....

how HB, is this proj ok?

experience wih fxl

I have a bit experience with the fxl bulbs, just a very short time...

LIKE 4 MONTHS and the fxl 410 watts 82 volts, when put in a Dukane 4003 or an Infocus 410 projector produce 4300 real lumens.
stop mentionning 170, 300 or 610 lumen. drop this subject,
you're waisting your time badly!

Testing 3 brands (GE, Osram and Ushio) the Osram was the brightest andthe Ushio was the weakest (about 200 lumens less, This is probably due to the non facetted parabole surface of the Ushio bulb)
Osram is also the most expensive of the 3 of them.

guys, I have posted all about the fxl bulbs on this forum soooooo many times, it's not nice anymore!

Well, I just made some comments about this one on another thread and yes, it seems ok. If the bulbs really cost just $200 then we are talking about just 5 cents per hour! That's very ok! If you want to make it really cheap you could put a 250w halogen, the it still should output 650 lumens and the it'd only be 2,5 cents per hour, but you'd have to change the bulb every 300 hours then and do some modifying.... I personally would stick to that standard setup if the bulb really is just 200 bucks each.

As I mentioned before, the specsheet at osram's site about FXL seems to have some information wrong (the really do state there that it has output of 640 lumens). And we ALSO had figured out that it has to output something like maybe 8000 lumens or so because OHPs that use it have usually output of about 4300 lumens.

You definetly have not read everything that we have talked about, otherwise YOU would not mention 170 lumens (and actually it is 140) because that is the output that comes out of the first projector discussed on this thread and I'll say it once more... it seems to have really bad optics as it loses that much of the light provided by the the FXL.

Personally, I would give this whole diy-lcd thing up in a heart beat if I could get my hands on a sony vph-1252q. yeah crts are not that bright, but in every other performence area they blow lcd out of the water. yeah they are big and not that bright, but many will do native hdtv and you never have to worrie about bulbs. go over to avsforum into the crt forum and you will find lcders that converted and love the black level, contrast, resolution, and color reproduction.

I'd buy the projector for less than 150. Its the same type of projector as the Proxima Dp2XXX series using the FXL bulb....it produces a respectable VGA image, but dont spend too much as its only VGA.


As for CRTs....the early ones had low lumen output, and like newer LCDs they have much higher output, and a CRT will blow an LCD out of the water in terms of contrast and resolution

Well today I went out and got some blackout cloth, they had 50/50 and 70/30 blends so I got the 70/30. I Just seting it up im my dorm room so I guess I will just have to tack it to the wall. Anyways, I can't wait to get this pj so I can figure if its a keeper!
