It seems I have been buying alot of projeciton panels latley, and need (want actually) a good overhead projector for testing out those suckers. I was thinking of buying an Elmo HP-A305. At $175, Im wondering if 7300 lumens is worth the cash? Also, what is the lens type?
An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.
Looks to be a triplet! I think im going to buy one... I only wish i could have grabbed one missing the glass stage 🙁 .
I never expected such a noobie question from "the most popular guy here" (LOL) but i'll answer.... No. 🙂
off topic: hey did u see 24!!!?? SH* i missed it AGAIN! i completley 4got!!! could u tell me what happened?
and ALSO yuo said yuo goin to give me a link where i can get a ballast for 5$ cheaper yet you neevr posted a link... 🙁 what gives?(1st time i ever used that phrase lol)

humm im looking at a projector that is the old school tall type with seperate reflector and Bulb and its rated at 17,000 lumens, SO I WAS like wahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, wee will see if it lives up to its claims, It uses a dns bulb I believe Its not halogen or MH, Who knows Dont even know the color temp, I just bought it for the actual projector and reflector But I will get a bulb to try it anyways. I will post back, Question tho verbose, why would you buy a 7,000 projector when you could just buy any old projector and add a HQI to it with much higher lumens? Do you have the DIY sickness........gotta bye it itus? lol
I have a metal halide overhead projector, and the bulb itself is 49,000 lumens. HMI575 just like the Elmo A305. 7300 lumens is the actual light output mesured at the screen. I picked my Dukane 670 up for $85 and it has a nice triplet lens like the one alan sells at DIY labs. That Elmo has some sort of wierd "varifocal lens". I am using My overhead with a projection panel and it works great. I wouldnt spend $175 dollars though for that Elmo though, some people were getting them for $99 without the top glass.
On that 17,000 lumen "DNS" bulb, I belive it is a halogen, probably 600watts or so.

Here are a couple of overheads that also have that 575watt hmi bulb like the Elmo.

Both my Dukane 670 and 680 have the Hmi bulb with a 327mm
focal lenght triplet lens. It will give you a bit longer throw distance to the screen than the elmo's 305mm lens. I would guess
that these Dukane 682's probably have the same lens as the projectors I have. Also the 680 style projector is rated at about
8000 lumens ansi.

yes, your right Jet its a 600 watt "DYS" i have one as well.
Its not all that great. I see mr. Verbose Mustafa is too big to answer my posts now....
anyways, the reason why i think this ohp is bad in the longrun is..
Bulb life 750 replacement is 100$ and UP! and no one talks about this but the installed HMI ballast within these OHP SUCK! they dont even last 5 years, if you DO buy one buy the newest you can get. Jake from Hommie.net said in the middle of operation
his ballast stopped working he thought it was the bulb and bought a 100$ bulb for no reason.

Heh! I feel like such a newbie again. ND, I got that link for you, you just have to catch me online one time (I dont jut give my sources to everyone 😀). Anywho, thanks for the input guys, this looks like a nive projector, but the bulb cost is a little high. If I could get one for $99, than it would be one of the best retrofit projectors 🙂. Oh well. I just need a good ohp for testing out panles (and watching 24 which was amazing by the way)...
I thought you were going to use an HQI setup?
that would be the perfect way to test your panels. and you can make a plexiglass enclousre for it 😉

My hqi/plexiglass setup is going to have a stripped 10.4" panel in it. I will not be able to use it for testing projection panels. Heh... I just found another nview z115 with video in for $99 🙂. I also have a spectra c, z210, mediapro, and at the rate I have been going, it will be nice to take pics of these things in action for newbs to see, and to jack my prices on ebay 🙂. ND, get on aim toinght geeze.
i was on last night night but i didnt see you. sorry ...Vice city has a mighty grip on my Bal...umm...on me
im on now i'll be here for 5-10 mins

Yeah, we're 2 ( well those who I heard of ) that had one elmo from inventory solutions with missing stage glass for 75$. But there web site was wrong and the model was a LV, so each of us got a fully working a305-SD for 75$. No broken parts.
And man it's so bright, I've turned it on in my fully dark bedroom, and it's like 10 times brighter than my normal lights! It was like day light!

Well, I'll explain you how I was thinking..
First, to do a projector, I needed a projection lens, a fresnel lens, a ballast, a socket, a lamp.
The lamp, tough I could go with the big bulbs from home depot, but was harder than expected. Too much trouble so I returned it.
For other setup the price was even higher than de 25$ home depot ones.
The ballast was like 60$
The main problem.. the fresnel. Custom are too $$$$$, diylabs are 14 focal lenth, and didn't want him to do $$ with me, looks like an assh* to me.
DIYLABS fresnel 30$
Samething with is projection lens, 35$
And find an other lens was a pain it the ***, try to make it work and focus.. focal length
And I had to build my case and make things work, proper cooling.
Buying each part would cost me ~150$, more with HQI setup
So I saw this elmo on invsol inc at 75$, 109 with shiping. This way I didn't have to build my case, I was sure that all part works with the other ones.. Even at 175$ I think it worth it.
This thing is bright, cold, but noisy. Like I said, open it up in my bedroom at night, 10x brighter than my normal ligth. My girlfriend was begging me to stop it! Her eyes were hurting lol

That kind of what I was thinking. Im sure I can talk them down to $150, and even $90 for a projector with no bulb. This way I will still have a set of matching optics which is the hardest part to find. I will also have a half desent reflector to use when i make my hqi setup and I can even use the metal halide setup inside untill it dies. Who knows. I think i will see how low i can talk them down and go from there. thanks
yeah right, this way you have the optics you need, even the reflector. So if you want to do your own setup, you don't need to buy all the part and make them match

I will test the 575w HMI lamp I got from YWH, as soon as I got one of those OHPs. My 575w lamp has identical specs as the lamp used in those OHPs mentioned above. If it works, we can have a nice subsitute lamp in a fraction of original cost.
