My thanks to Home Handyman for showing a worthwhile construction tip for speaker builders.
If you use hole saws for cutouts for drivers or holey braces as P10 shows in designs this tip is very useful.
Drilling relief holes before using the hole saw to cut through makes the
job a lot easier and faster. I drilled four large diameter holes with a brad point drill bit at the cardinal points for a small two inch bass reflex port.
Before drilling the multiple holes in the perimeter, I scored the cutout with the hole saw then drilled inside the line left by the kerf.
The relief holes move waste being removed and cuts down on the drag of using the hole saw which can cut faster. It may be old news to some but I had never seen this tip before.
Also here's a good time to remind that cutting the hole partially then flip over to complete the cut makes the plug in the hole saw easier to remove.
