So I wrote to the good Mr. Albrechtsen at SB Acoustics to see if he'd let me review some of the new tweeters and small mid-woofers. We'll see! 🙂 I don't expect anything until late this year though.
If you don't mind a small sweet spot, the TPL150H is a nice HF driver.I kmow nothing about beyma or faital. what am i missing?

Quite a lot, first tier speaker driver manufacturers. 😀

Oh, fabulous! Ever since Radio Shack closed I can't find any place to buy new piezo horn tweeters.... 😀 😀 😀
every kind of speaker I could think I can ever want to build, from fullranges to three ways, can be done with products of the Italian brand SICA/Jensen

I've been checking them out. 🙂 I need to take a trip to Spain. I like the name they have for AMTs, "Pleated Diaphram Tweeters"
Best,

SB Acoustics seem to be rattling Scanspeak's World ATM.
Dirt cheap drivers with good motors and low inductance copper pole-pieces and high Qms.
They always have issues with peaky cone-breakup, but on a desert island I might have time for high-order crossovers to fix that. Or use the MFC polycone types.
AVI use 2kHz electronic 8th order at 2kHz with the DM10. The tweeter seems to go up to 30kHz! Below.
These drivers, AFAIK:

SB26STAC-C000-4 :: SB Acoustics
The ring-radiators might be worth a go too:
SB29RDC-C000-4 :: SB Acoustics
I could have a whole heap of fun with SB. Scanspeak too. SEAS seem a bit locked into low Qms Aluminium voice-coil formers at the moment. Alright for bass, but not much good for anything else. All using solid chassis, of course.

So not only are we saying which single manufacturer would you buy from we're also saying you have to pay for the drivers too.
I think I'd have to go with SB. They have fantastic cheap drivers and amazing expensive ones. On top of this their boutique products are priced lower than most of the competition and lose out of nothing in comparison.
The real interesting note for me though is that SB are a very young company and keep diversifying. Give them a couple more years and their line up will probably have grown significantly.
My other choice would probably be Tang Band as they have so many different types of driver. I have a lot of fun building all sorts of different types of loudspeaker, from small, single driver affairs, to large multiways. TB cater to this extremely well. Give it a few more years and SB might too!

Right!
Maybe we should make another category. While on this deserted island a container falls off a ship with a massive shipment of speakers. Who would you wish it to be, if different from the one you'd be paying for. 🙂
Best,
Erik

Dayton is the only one that covers all categories eg HiFi and pro woofers, tweeters, compression drivers, AMTs, subwoofers etc and does them all exceptionally well.
So you would never get bored
So you would never get bored
On a desert island only pro drivers make sense to me since I assume no neighbours and plenty of open space.
But which one?
If I don't have to pay probably JBL but if cost is a factor Faital or Beyma.

I have always been a big fan of Fane loudspeakers.
I have a house full in various cabinets.
I have sealed boxes, folded horns and bass reflex boxes.
Fane have a huge range of speakers.
In 38 years I haven't managed to blow one up yet despite running a mobile disco very loud.

So pro all the way? i have to say I like their 18" woofer. 98 dB, and 52mm peak to peak travel, and 1200 watts sustained output, whats not to love?

Tempted to try that dirt cheap SB dome tweet with a satori midbass.
If only choosing one brand for life it would be between Morel and SBA.
Morel is another very famous brand I don't know if I heard or liked. I need a bigger hobby budget.
