Sharp QA question

I've just bought a non-working Sharp QA-1650 (I knew it was broken when i bought it but couldn't resist the price! Cheers Alan 😀 ) the symptoms are it turns on and displays a wonderful image, but after about 2 seconds the image fades to black. Alan thinks this implies that a resistor value is out of spec. But i thought i'd post incase anyone else has had the same problem or has any ideas???

Alan at DIY audio says:

"There are several variable resistors in the panel that have adjustors on the top (you use a small screwdriver to turn them to change the resistance value). I suspect that at least one of those is the culprit, and that it can be fixed without replacing anything. The reason I think that is the problem is because it seems as if a capacitor is being allowed to charge too quickly, and therefore is flooding the screen with black pixel values"

Does that sound about right?

Any help on the matter would be great as i cant wait to watch a film on the big screen 🙂

yeah, it sounds about right. Tweak each one of those, one by one, while the panel is off. Turn the first one a quarter way, turn on the panel, if it didnt work, turn the thing back, and try the next one, that what I would do , if i had the same panel and problem, lol. Good luck, and if it doesnt work out, can i have it, lol?
