First, I would like to say how much I enjoy these forums! Thank You! I don't know much about electronics but, I get a rush reading the discusions about lumens and lux, parabolic as opposed to spherical and halide versus halogen. My ghetto PJ is a Proxima 810 projection panel used with a Da-lite 5000 Lumens OHP. I use a tv/video to VGA convertor that gives me additional control over brightness , contrast and saturation. The results to me are oustanding. I know most of you are so far beyond this setup that you cringe at the meer mention of projection panels. However, there are alot of people that are just now testing the waters ,as you were , years ago. In my research I have found alot of dis-information in the archives of this site and other DIY sites about specifications, pinouts and powersupply needs of the most common projection panels such as , Sharp 2500, Proxima Ovation 920 / 944 and the Infocus Powerview 950, used by newbies for their very own first ghetto PJs.
I have put up a website that lists facts about some of the most common and sought after projection panels. The key word is facts. The info I have gathered is taken from manufacturers operations manuals or facts posted in public forums that have a general agreement to their validity. I know you "Timmy the Toolman, Argh argh argh" people would rather discuss the focal lenth of the condensor in conjunction with the light source but, us newbies are still searching and I have some of the answers. Thank you for the knowledge that you have and share but, never forget where you were and where you have come from!
Click on the link for projection panel facts, and click on the pictures for my PJ results. Thanks again!!

Very nicely done. I Just started looking into making my own projector and have been researching for about 1.5 weeks now. I have a PO 822c on the way and looking for an elmo 305. I noticed you pics with the abient light and it didnt look to dim at all. 2 Questions 1.) Do u feel that the 5000lumens is enough? 2.) How far is your projector from the screen?
USP55,
Thanks , the triple pass blackout cloth I use for the screen really helps with the brightness. The OHP is 11' from the screen. More lumens probably would be more helpful but, I'm sure there is a law of diminishing returns . How high of lumens before the screen colors start washing out ??. The Proxima 810 has a smaller display window. Using a panel with a larger display area would benefit more from the increased lumens. I switched from a 3500 lumen OHP to the 5000 and gained a substantial improvement in brightness. There is a lot of light loss with the panels because they are raised slightly above the OHP stage to allow air flow. This residual light reflects around the room and on to the screen affecting the picture. I have made a "skirt",if you will, of breathable cloth surrounding the panel that totally eliminates the extra reflective light allowing the natural projected image to show better without interference. I have a Proxima 944 being delivered today. With the larger lcd area of the 944 I should get a brighter picture. "larger area, more light". Looks good on paper!! He he

The info on my website is accurate. I have the proxima ovation operation manual for the 842 / 844 series and it is indeed the 12v. I have had the 810, 822, 844 and now I have the 944 panel and they all use the same power supply pictured on my website. Sorry to hear about your purchase.
