Sharp QA-1400, 7300 Lumens, and 1.3 grain screen

In the topic I mentioned what I am going to use. I have my LCD Panel and my screen. (Waiting on my OHP.) Does anyone have a similar setup?
Also I have a few other questions.
I want to make my screen so I can mount it on the ceiling and roll it up when not in use. Anyone have an experience on it? It is a 56"X108" sheet of material. Also what is a good distance for the OHP to be at?

The OHP I am going to get soon has 7300 Lumens. Is that bright enough to display in low light? And, Does anyone have problems with light bleeding out of the projector? If so how did you fix it?

And last. Does anyone have experiance using the Sharp QA-1400 LCD Panel? It works great. But I cant find specs on it. Anyone have a site that has specs on it?

Thank you all in advance. I have been reading the posts for a month and finally decided on making a projector. From the results other have been getting I am looking forward to seeing it for myself.

7300 lumens?? I have a 2800 lumen OHP, and I can watch TV with the room ambiently lit. By that I mean blinds not completely shut- not sun coming in on the screen. 🙂 But you should be fine brightness wise. I currently have a black garbage bag stretched outover the projection lens and down to the edges of the LCD. It helps eliminate scattered light that will lighten your blacks.

cool

Thanks. I was wondering if I could do that. But I was also wondering about heat. it uses a MH lamp. And those get hot. I was reading a few other posts and saw a guy that put up a black cloth in front of the OHP, then cut a hole in the cloth to reduce the ammount of light bleeding into the room.

Also what size screen do you have? The screen I have is a bit long but I can cut it down when I get the correct size want from the OHP.

I *wish* mine used a MH lamp.. 🙂 My OHP gets pretty hot, but nothing extreme. I also want to try the black cloth idea, as it doesn't trap as much heat around the lcd.

My screen size at 2.35:1 (episode II) diagonal to diagonal is about 80". normal 16:9, probably 90-100. It's as big as my room allows 🙂

Sharp QA-1400 Panel setup

Hi,

I have the same panel on order (should be here this week!) and my overhead projector just arrived. It's an Eiki 3990BP at 4000 lumens. Here's the auction link:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=25322&item=3411664305&rd=1

...and the panel auction link:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=25321&item=3411353941&rd=1

The only specs I can find on this panel are listed here:
http://members.cox.net/rolm/results.html
That has limited info on the QA-1400 (it just says that it's active matrix and 640x480).

No luck on finding the manual online. Anyone out there know where we can get this manual?

Good luck - I will post again when I get the whole thing together - maybe I can post some photos also.

Pendrgn99, I'm making an in depth projection panel resource site. You can see the beta version at http://www.diyprojection.com/panelguide/

I have a few panels done so far, that is about an hour of work and research on the internet. Of corse the finished version will have an index page, with a search engin and what not 🙂 .

Manuals for these things are real hard to come by. Could you send me a copy so I can add to the wealth? My email is patry(at)charter(dot)net

Thanks

That sounds cool. Those things are hard to come by.

Another note:
I was given (yup, free!!) an Infocus Litepro 560 video projector. Specs are here:
http://www.projectorcentral.com/projector_details.cfm?part_id=439
It works good, no problems. One working bulb (it has a quick bulb switcher like in OHP's). The only drawback - there is VGA input only. I might look into buying a converter - do you guys have any good ideas or sources to get other video inputs into this thing?
How does this converter look?:

or this one:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=14912&item=2723892670&rd=1
Both a little pricey, but if it's worth it -ya know?!!
Let me know what you think - you guys seem on top of things!!

Mustafa, this might help you in your quest for info - a reference:

Sharp QA-1400 Panel Question

Hey guys,

Sharp QA-1400 panel - 640x480 active matrix, 1.7 million colors
Eiki 3990BP overhead projector - 410w Halogen, 4000 lumens
Screen - plain white shower curtain (for early tests - not bad, though)
Blackout cloth w/black clothe for border (currently under construction) - can't see much difference from the shower curtain! lol

I now have everything and began testing - everything looks good, clear, and bright. I can even watch with lights on (dimmed).

A few things though,

1) I have two bad pixels - off to the left side, but when all things are going, you tend to forget about it, so it's not that bad.

2) When watching, I notice the brightness fine, then dimming down 4 steps or so, and after another minute, then back up. This happens about every 3 miutes. It looks as though the panel itself is doing it, doesn't seem like the ohp is doing it at all, and you can actually see the brightness "step" down like you would adjust it through the menu with 4 button pushes down, then back up.. if that made sense.

3) Another thing, should I gesso the blackout cloth? I read people are doing that with good results. One requirement I need for my screen though, I need to be able to roll it up for storage when it is not being used to get it out of the way. Any ideas?

I will get some rough photos up for ya soon.
Overall I am happy with the results.

Thanks all!
