Im not sure where to post this, but im posting it here.

I just got a sharp projector on ebay for about 110bux including shipping.

i thought that it was very cheap, but i see why. the specs are here:

http://www.projectorcentral.com/Sharp_XG_Series-XG-E850U.htm

he said it comes with no bulb, as the old one died.

is there any way to beef up the lumens? or another method for a bulb, because its like 340 dollars! im not paying that for a bulb. i want to get like a higher wattage halogen for more lumens.

any ideas? the projector works fine.

have u got any internal pics of the projector with the cover off? u can retrofit it out with a cheaper metal halide bulb but we will need to see if u have enough room for it, the older bulbs in these things wearnt as bright as they are today and the optics also are of not quite a high state as the newer models so to beef up the lumens id give it a darn good cleaning on the optics maybe change a few things like condenser ect and retrofit it out with a 250w mh system, until i get to see inside of this thing i cant help u anymore .

Thats kind of pricey buddy, u should be able to get a working one for that price. I got an infocus lp220 for $60 it works, missing lamp and projection lens, it would probally cost me about 150 to get it going again with a 12khr bulb retrofit. Im looking at rebuilding it into a new case so im holding off on that for now.

know a source for cheap bulbs? its awful lousy that a 250W bulb is 400 bux.

the problem is, the projector doesnt come with the cage either.

i was wondering if the ballast is on the cage.

i wonder if a 350 or 400watt halogen would work? that outta kick up the lumens, as soon as i figure out how bright 175 lumens are.

now thats more like it lol, ok forget halogen in one of those, the halogen just are too hot, it would have to be a metal halide light, id say if u got enough room go for a 250w hqi lamp and if not maybe the cdm-t will work, the lumens i wouldnt worry about too much, the more lumens u have means its more watchable in a lightend area although 175 is low i must admit but its watchable, i would be very suprised if u dont get 175lm with a cdm-t bu;b in that.
