Would it be possible (nevermind practicable, that's for later) to make a set of horns that were, say, 4" deep...and spirals...and wall-hanging? Perhaps for one of the more popular Jordans or the new CSS 4.5" drivers. The general idea is about as deep as required to house the motor of the actual speaker itself, barely, then spiralling to get the required length, with flare along the spiral, with the opening at least large enough to get down to the 70 to 100+ Hz range where a sub could take over.

I've seen a couple of designs along those lines on the web. Sorry no links. One hung on the wall like a square picture. It had a small driver in the center and had 4 spirals in with each mouth terminating at one side of the square. If you wanted to keep it at a max depth of 4-5", then multiple mouths would be better to avoid a very narrow mouth. For horn mouths, a circle is ideal and square is next. Too narrow a rectangle would be a big compromise.
Another design I saw was for a Japanese apartment (space a premium). It was a straight horn with the mouth up high. It had a 4-5" depth except at the mouth where opened up to about a foot of depth.
