I have a rotel rcd-971 cd player which has been to skip during ther first 10 minutes of playing. i have used a cd lens cleaner to no avail.. please advise what to do next and how to remove the cover case

Just stumbled on this thread and wondered if others could help ?
I have a Rotel RHCD-10 CD Player. All operates perfectly, apart from the remote attenuation. It registers on the display, but the output level remains the same ?
I suspect there may be a power up/menu option to activate this, but its not mentioned in the manual ?
