Service manual HP 3582A

Odd that Agilent doesn't offer the service... As I recall the 3582A was one of those analyzers that had the combo digital / analog display that were such a pain to work on. Look on the back for a video out and see if your signal is present there. If so look for a manual for the display itself. It has all sorts of self tests on it. As long as you have any clear characters on the screen it's fixable. If the CRT or HV goes, it's toast. I've got some boards from a couple I could maybe dig out if you run into parts problems.

The person i talked to at HP considered the unit old and i wasn´t a prefered big money customer.

I suspect that some kind of amplifier card has died.

The input section is working cause i can see the overload leds going on/off if i switch range.

The display lights up and text is working but no measuring beam is showing up.

I´ll try and rip it apart for optical inspection.

Perhaps a bad connection or solder joint further inside on the backplane.

The 3582a has a bigger display then the 3562a at least the part thats visual.

I'm in need of a service manual for one of these too. These likely have their share of marginal electrolytics after 30 years. They don't look so old on the outside, but add 1960 to the first two digits of the serial for the year. It never hurts to check the power supplies first although that reminds me of the old joke when a passerby asks a guy crawling on the ground by a street light what he's doing.... looking for keys is the reply. When asked where he lost them he says down the block and is then asked why he's looking where he is. The light's better! Last I checked my old HP 300A Harmonic Wave Analyzer, close to twice as old, is still working. That makes this newer stuff with proprietary chips that come and go look like a passing fad. But old or older, HP gear is great stuff.

After some digging i found a couple of bad caps, some resistors that looked like they had a hot time was replaced to.

It´s now up and running again.

It´s a very solid buillt piece of equipment will work many more years.

Thanks to all help from members of the forum.

Hi,
I just bought a HP3582. Unfortunately, looks good but does not work. We saw above that someone has service manual for the analyzer. Please ! can anyone to send me this service manual ? Maybe I'll be able to troubleshoot it.
Thank you,
