anybody know were i can find a circuit diagram for a sequential mains switching unit?
im after something that will power up my system in a sequence with a delay between each unit being turned on,and reverse the sequence on turning off.
ive use EMO units in the past but at £450+there a a bit expensive for hippy on a tight budget

I am working on one now...
I have my boards just back from the fab. It is capable of sequencing 5 SSRs in a delayed fashion with a nominal 1 second delay between each. The delay can be altered. It has an LED indicator for each stage.
I am working on the mechanical design now, a baseplate to mount the components on and serve as the heatsink for the SSRs. I expect I will have the baseplate protos in a couple of weeks.
I am using it in a different mode than you tho. I will have 5 stage soft start seqencing for all my gear using this circuit. You can wire the AC portion in a multiple of ways to achieve your desired output.
It only sequences in the on direction. In the off direction, it turns all units off simultaneously.
It can be triggered either by the AC out on your master preamp/control head unit or by a 12V trigger available on many preamp/control units.

cheers for the offer Gepetto however i realy would like to get the switch off sequence to be a mirror of the start,after a sudden brain wave(unusuall for me) im now thinging along the lines of a bargraph driver (LM 3914) being fed from a ramp genarator,not the most elegant of solutions but on paper at least it apears to work
What are you planning on using for trigger?
Just curious what you are going to rely on to start the chain of events (AC on one of your components? 12V trigger? Other?) How many events(delays) are involved?
