Hello,
I currently have an active sub up to 65Hz, 18" open baffle bass from there to 500Hz, Beyma 12p80nd from there to 2k and a Beyma TPL150H from there up. Plan is to replace the 12p80nd and TPL150 with one of the bms coaxials on either the SEOS 24 or 30. Crossovers are all digital with Najda,
Are there any noticeable differences between a 4592 and a 4590, or even a 4594 or the HE version of the latter driver? Would it be better to spend the extra on the 4592 or 4594HE and use the cheaper 18sound 1464XT or the K402 copy on ebay from the place in Miami?
I am in the UK and the SEOS horns are £200 to £250 each compared to £39 each for the 1464XT.
The BMS drivers are £267 each for the 4590, £367 for the 4592, £467 for the 4594 and £490 for the HE version.
Any guidance or experiences gratefully received!
Kind regards,
Keith.

This is just my opinion the Seos horns are just ok and the Bms coaxial drivers are just ok neither are anything special. The Beyma 12ps80nd are really nice sounding mid bass units i have never heard the TPL-150 but i bet they sound really nice. I can't believe you want to switch from these really nice Beyma audiophile grade components to some average sounding Bms.
In my opinion that would be a down-grade have you tried crossing them over at 1200 HZ to 1400 HZ range they will sound way better crossed lower. You are losing so much detail with the Beyma playing out to 2000 HZ. For instance guitars fundamental frequencies are 80 HZ to 1200 HZ but their are harmonics above that and they are crucial to make the guitar sound authentic and the 12ps80 just will not reproduce those high frequencies in a audibly believable way like the TPL-150 will or a good 1" compression driver will.
Have you ever seen the $100,000 Daniel Hertz M1 speakers?? They use a 18p80nd crossed at 80 HZ to a 12p80nd crossed at 1800 HZ to a CP385nd maybe you find some inspiration from these. M1

Which one is this (link please)?
User of this forum from Norway sells his K402 and Axidriver. How will probably switch to diffraction slot horn 250Hz-15kHz. A friend of mine told me that even if waveguide control up to 250Hz (size 1x0,5x0,5m) phase shifts and reactive mode requires crossover above 500Hz - for SPL peaks 120dB. This probably means mouth surface area must be larger (round waveguides) and it must be longer.

1.4” or 2” throat large constant directivity horns you can actually buy!
Sorry it was similar to k510, see post 8 of thread linked above.
Sean,
the idea is to get a point source reproduction from 500Hz or thereabouts all the way up to 20k with a crossover at 7k ish. Compression drivers also said to be more transparent and with greater dynamics.
My current setup was inspired somewhat by the M1 but I had the 18" (Fane Colossus XB) crossing at 350 and the 12" crossing to the TPL150 at 1650. I moved the lower crossove to 500 to 600 to see if it could play there as that is as low as the compression drivers could reasonably be expected to go. I also moved the upper crossover up to 2k as the 12" had less work to do lower down so could go higher. this also moved the TPL away from it's often mentioned problem area for distortion at 1.7k ish.
The shift in crossover points to 500 and 2k has brought some openness and clarity to the midrange.
They do sound very good but my curiosity about the compression drivers still exists 🙂.

So does anyone have any opinions on the merits of the different BMX coaxial drivers and which horns suit them best?
Hello Keith.
Regarding TPL and 12p80nd, maybe an 8" such B&C 8pe21, or 10" such as 18Sound 10NDA610 would improve upon the 12".
Regarding BMS coax and Seos, someone here is using that combo. Maybe it was Face? Can't recall, but I do recall he posted his measurement on a thread of mine which I think I was considering a seos for midrange. You might was to dig it with the search function.
Here we go. It was Face indeed. Post #26
Which horn from 450 to 2000Hz? K-510?

I have tried all the options you mention. If you are anywhere near Nottingham I have some Tractrix horns and the BMS drivers you could try.

Hi Keith, I recently got to spend 2 days at an audio show listening to Volti Audio Vittora Horn speakers that use the BMS 4592ND Mid Range driver and they are an amazing sounding horns! They are the best sounding mid range in a horn that I have heard, actually maybe my Favorite Mid Range period! I am going to be buying either that or the new 4594ND HE - Coaxial driver to start building my Horn Speakers - I need to find someone who has heard both or ask the factory which they like best and their strengths and weaknesses - Best Regards , Dean
