All it will do is mono the bass below 80Hz. You are not adding any new info. Your main L/R speakers are still running full range, huh?It’s a 2.0 channel system for music only. The idea is to filter out low frequencies of lower than 80 Hz from the 2.0 channel and feed them back to the 2.0 system.

Depending on how good your main L/R speakers are, this might affect the imaging of certain instruments. Or maybe not.
I don't think it will break anything. Can you make the switch on the fly? Play a good recording with a good recording of a drum kit. Ideally, it would be towards one of the sides. See if the imaging changes.
Unfortunately, most recordings seem to place the drums, timpani, etc... in the middle or so. Even in a symphony orchestra, the percussion sits way back and fills the hall in a mono fashion. The directional clues are all above 80 Hz.
