I am going to build a low noise (hopefully) amplifier for a MC preamplifier. It will use 2 2sk170 transistors.
I have both the 2SK170GR and 2SK170BL in my box. The bias should run 3 - 5 ma or so. Is there a performance advantage to using the lower current spec'd GR series?
My phono uses the BL series, but they operate closer to the range of the GR.

George,
no, i see no advantage in the lower current GR.
And yes, it will be low noise.
I have built a MC amp with them ( don't remember wich type K170 I used ) cascaded into the cathode of a E88CC just like Allen Wright does.
I can only say that it's the most quiet and musical MC amp I ever built.
Dick.
