Hi Folks,
I'm an amateur to speaker building so I'm asking if anyone happens to have a proven design they are willing to share that uses SEAS Excel W15CY001 drivers with one of the following tweeters:
Scanspeak 9500, 9700, 9900 orSEAS T25CF001 or Vifa XT25TG-30-04
I'm open to designs that are monitors or floor-standing; bass reflex or transmission line.
I'm also fine with either a 2-way or 3-way or even a 3.5 way and am happy to add bass drivers - as long as they are not something really really exotic, esoteric and expensive. I'm just seeking something that someone has built before with good results and preferably measurements.
I know of all the Troels Gravesen designs however, I'm basically looking for a way to use up some of the extra drivers that I have around without buying yet even more drivers and further endangering my marriage. I'm also wanting a fun little project for a second pair of speakers but unfortunately I don't have the skills nor the equipment to design my own cross-over.
As an examples, this John Krutke design that uses SEAS Excel W15CY001 mids with T25CF001 tweeters would be perfect BUT the crossover design and cabinet dimensions are not disclosed:

BTW: if anyone happens to know how to contact John Krutke of Zaph Audio I'd be grateful for the contact info as his website does not list his email address. Possibly he is avoiding such requests for his unpublished designs from the audio obsessed and has joined the witness protection program?😎
Anyway, all suggestions that don't involve expletives will be graciously and gratefully received.🙂
Many thanks in advance.
Patrick

It is very hard to recommend here because most important design criteria is your listening environment and preferences. You should make it clear himself.
As for more drivers, more drivers does not automatically mean better sound. Yet another driver means another problems and you should have absolutely clear understanding why do you need another driver.
Thanks very much for the information esp. John's user name here. I'll try a pm but certainly respect someone for stepping back to spend time with their family. Cheers.

I should try to be a bit more clear about this as I think that I didn't do a very good job in my original post. To use the analogy of cooking: most of the time people decide what they are going to make first and then go shopping for the ingredients to make it. However, every so often someone may look in their cupboards and fridge and then try to figure out what they can make with the ingredients that they already happen to have. It is for this second approach- while not necessarily ideal - that I'm seeking a "recipe" for the SEAS W15CY drivers together with one of the tweeters listed above.
If it helps, my preference would be to build a 2-way speaker with the first choice being a monitor to use with my computer for near-field listening to a wide variety of music and some dialogue. However, because this is very specific application I'm certainly open to building a floor-standing speaker or broadening my range of options to include a 3-way design IF someone happens to have one that they have tried and they like that includes the SEAS mids and one pair of the tweeters listed above. I would just like to use some of these drivers that are otherwise sitting around. I hope that helps.
Patrick,
I see an option for you which is not ideal. Sell the excel bassmid
and get yourself a 2nd hand Scan Speak15W 8530 K00 and build
Zaph's ZD 5 kit. Hopefully Vifa XT 25 from this kit is your Vifa
tweeter. This way you should not be looking at any extra cost and
get yourself a decent two way system.

It's only half way there, but this design of Troels' may assist with the taming of the midbass........ W15CY001-OWI
I'm guessing though you really want a complete design that has been sorted with one of the tweeters mentioned, and are not interested in pioneering 😉 .
Tony.

Hi Tony,
I was hoping for a design with one of the listed tweeters but I can't really find one. The one that you mentioned is my next choice and I think that it is a very good one as the OW1 tweeter is excellent. Many thanks. Patrick

I actually have the Scan Speak 15W8530's already in another design so putting this together would not be hard. Was hoping to do something with the SEAS driver but in the end I'm probably going to either have to sell it or buy yet another tweeter to match it. Thanks for your suggestion. Patrick
