What about SS rectifiers? Or do you swear by tube rectification?
You can make a better CCS with a MOSFET. Hell most of the time I just use TL783 or LM317.

It's very difficult to define the signal path. Almost any component can affect the output signal.IMHO, any amp containing semiconductors in the signal path is a hybrid amp not a tube amp.

That's true... Some people define it as the gain circuitry but not including the power supply. Others include the PSU. Still others would include the electrical system in the house and neighbourhood.
If I have a 1kW amp that sags the entire branch, in theory that "signal" could be imposed on other devices on the same branch... Are they all part of the signal path?

I'll allow SS rectifiers. They are not in the signal path. I use SMPS for heaters for the same reason.
We are not talking about 'better', we are talking about a tube versus a hybrid amp.You can make a better CCS with a MOSFET. Hell most of the time I just use TL783 or LM317.

Absolutely. The only place I will allow SS is in the PSU.It's very difficult to define the signal path. Almost any component can affect the output signal.

As I said, most people would say the PSU is in the signal path.
As far as I'm concerned, if the SS part doesn't provide gain (voltage or current), it's not a hybrid. At the end of the day,. it's just semantics though.

One should argue that the HT bypass caps are in the signal path but the remainder is not INMO, any more than the local power station is.As I said, most people would say the PSU is in the signal path.

Apologies to those who seem to be offended by the name of this thread!
Another quick update...
Extensive listening tests over the last few days have shown I much prefer the EL34's over the KT88's sonically. This may be because I can't run the KT88's at more than 70mA and ~30W whereas I am running the EL34's at the limit.
