Seas TRYM

Yeah, I'm interested in those too. While the driver pair looks somewhat unlikely (8" Excel midwoof, Excel tweet), those are the same drivers S. Linkwitz chose for his latest, the Orion. I've heard nothing but rave reviews for the Orion so the Trym might be very nice if the crossover is done well. Linkwitz's server seems to be down now - probably got nailed by the worm last weekend - but here's the link.

I agree. This particular driver and design have only been around a year or so, so you might not get many reviews. However, the driver complement is some of the best going according to those that have measured them, and the high end designs they have found they're way into. If the crossover is good (and it should be) this speaker *should* easily blow away commercial designs three times the ~$750 Solen is charging for the full kit minus cabinets.
Again, I have not built or listened to the speaker, but I noticed you weren't getting many responses. I don't think you will be dissapointed though, these drivers have some of the lowest distortion and energy storage out there. (and Solen makes some decent crossover parts😉 )

Jason

I'm using those same drivers in my own Linkwitz-style dipole project, and they do indeed sound excellent.

My only query, and I don't really know enough about crossovers to say whether it is good or bad, is crossing over the W22 at 2.5kHz. According to the Seas site and my measurements, the W22 is well into its pre-resonance dip by then, with roll-off starting at about 1.2kHz.

I use an active 24dB L/R crossover at 1.44kHz, if that helps.

There seems to be some confusion about the Trym crossover. The Solen site shows a slightly different one than the Seas site. As I recall, at least one of the caps is a different value. As well, the Solen site lists a considerably higher Fc. I suppose that could just be typos on the Solen page. Given some comments I've read elsewhere (no personal experience) about Solen's habit of designing "textbook" crossovers, rather than optimizing them to the drivers, I'd be inclined to stick with the one on the Seas site with a nominal 1.6 kHz Fc.

Hi!
I have had a discussion with petrh from czech diypage. His opinion is two smaller woofers(d´Appolito) are better then one bigger. e.g. : 2x CB17RCY/p in d´Appolito are better then 1x W22. What do you think? He says there is only little diference between Seas Excel and Seas Classic speakers!

I have built something like Seas Trym(W22 + T25 - 001). There is a photo!
