Thnx
Hey Sumit,
Thanks a lot fr the reply Bro,Ya I noticed the two diff drivers wts main diff btw the 2 N also wts the dia of the driver ?
By the way forgot only 2 ask U bout the tweeter tht U hv put in the box
Am also vry much interested in building a 2 R 3way tower with a nice sub,as U hv said tht the Amp thing is available fr diy so wts the thing N hw do I get those.
will gv U a call one of these days .

hi soundgreat
The cone dia. of the mid drivers are the same just that the outer dia of the BP basket is a bit bigger.
The tweeters r Vifa XT25, that i bought from Germany for 65euros each.
The amp is a bridgeable MOSfet unit and can provide 60v p-p on a 4ohm load continuously ( with a little modification u can get 65 to 70 v p-p on 4ohms ). It has its own power supply and a optional ALC built in. Another pcb is there with other needed cks. ie. 2nd order low pass filter, link. trans., infra sub filter, buffer. Both the PCBs are available with me. For the components u can buy yourself, or i can send u whatever u can't find in your locality or if its cheaper here in Delhi.
How to buy these from me needs to be discussed separately or on the trading part of this site, so if u need any further trading q?? let take this to the trading section. For any tech q?? continue here as long as u like.....

I don't think this is proper way to make drivers.
As sumeet suggested, to get proper Qts, Vas, etc. etc. u hv to buy good speaker designing software costing xxxx dollars. Then u must hv proper parts to assemble as per the design.
hope this will open eyes.
I think summet got rid of his excess parts.

SoundsGreat ,
You seem to spend all your time sending sms's. Your hands are locked on to truncated words.
It's OK to use normal text here.
Most of us generally respond favourably to normal text and haven't much time to decipher things like "...Bt jst wntd 2 ask U wt excatly U mean by tht ..." etc.
You would understand , wouldn't you ?

Just visit this site to know about magnet(motor) assembly design software.
http://www.loudsoft.com/default.asp?site=FINEMotor.asp
U will understand more about the technology required to make good motor design.
it is not possible to just assemble & get results.
it requires expertise, experience & type of components required on ur hand.
If anybody can explain me that driver design can be done just by some calculations without any equipments & technical data of the components, I will salute him.

Re: Hmmmmmmm!!
I think what ashok meant to say that you could say the something using proper english and not SMS terminology.
SMS is pretty hard to follow for many of us.
Sumit's efforts are fantastic. I dont think Palesha was trying to degrade them.
He was just responding to the following statement made by sumit "After u have finished with the actual assembly u have to measure the ts parameters. For that u need a signal generator , an ac voltmeter, a small amplifier, a few resistors etc or u can buy the Woofer tester from Dyatone available at Parts Express ( i bought mine from PE ). But u need a computer to use the woofer tester"

Dear Navin,
I will clear myself. I am not a driver manufacturer.
I also appreciate the efforts of sumeet. But i don't know what type of driver he wanted to make & what he got?
He has not given any details about his ideas of designing the driver.
I don't won't to say anything about testing after making the driver.
But i want to say that u must know what kind of driver u want to make. U hv to simulate driver parameters with proper software.
or u must hv lot of experience to design driver to get proper T/S required by u.
I think here, most of our members must not hv experience of designing drivers. Then they need simulation software to be precise. This driver designing softwares r very expensive to buy & understand.
Further u need all the proper spares like cone, spider, voice coil, dust cap, magnet with charging source & low carbon steel plates with lowest tolerance.
Cone must be with it's specification. only manufacturer can give u this.
spider too hv it's compliance specs. where u get this specs in the market?
all the drawings to be make for top plate & t yoke to get them machined on precision lathe at lowest speed possible to retain magnetic properties. Then the material required is a low carbon steel.
Voice coil former, high temperature self adhesive winding wire( not available off the shelf) & then oven to back it.
Then proper adhesives for bonding. There is special booklet from loctite.
Above all the experience to assemble or get help from some speaker technician.
After that u require thiel small testing equipments to check what is the T/L specs of driver.
I know woofer tester is a nice & affordable piece of equipment.
But u hv to buy it.
All this to just make 2~4 pieces of drivers?
This is not so easy & practical to design & make the driver of ur own specification.

Thanks,
This is going to be a big one so please bear with me !!
To both Naveen and Palesha for giving your opinions,
I think I've made it clear for what reason I used the short form, anyway I think I'll stick to normal.so thats taken care of .
now coming back to the main debate I certainly know that driver designing is not an "walk in the park",but I was very much interested in the drivers that sumit had made so I requested him make some for me which readly agreed but I could not talk to him for some time and later when I tried to mail him it bounced back.so I tried to talk through this thread.
Now coming to my real problem, I want a good driver to use in my tower project which I've been planning for years now but cannot start due various reasons which most of us in india have. my main problem is I cannot spend 8000 Rs on an single 6" driver from seas nor can spend half of it on an dayton.
I've talked to these vifa people but of no use thier pricing is simply impossible and also they only stock some models which again are too damn expensive for me,so whats the alternate ???
I've tried to talk to couple of manufacturer's here in bangalore and two companies had promised me some gud stuff. one of the companies 5.25" drivers parameters are as follows.
Fs 57.7965
Diameter 95.0000mm
ZMax 75.1831
Re 6.5000
Rms 0.5611
Qms 7.3401
Qes 0.6947
Qts 0.6346
Cms 0.6686
Mms 11.3417
BL 6.2080
VAS 4.6906
dBSPL 83.1744
L 1kHz 0.8581
L 10kHz 0.3137
now could please any one tell whats your opinion on the above TSP.
if any one lend me an helping hand it would be really appriciated.

From Qts, b/l & spl,
Qts seems little high,
B/l is ok if linearity is good. U hv to check frequency response curve + impedance curve.
Spl is low but this happens for good linearity in high quality drivers.
Thiel small is more important for woofer cabinet design then in midrange.
If u want to use this as midbass, then the speaker is weak.
The mms is also not high enough for good bass.
also the Qes is not good for bass. This tells about ur voice coil.
In woofer .qes is normally low.
this must a low power speaker.
Tell me what u want to do? u r looking for good speakers but not in quantity i think. So the retail prices will be always higher.
Hope this helps.

bjorno,
Nice to see ur graph.
with this graphs of box design no one can guarantee the linearity of driver.
This is a ideal condition frequency response which in practice not possible.
No driver ever made is 100% linear as predicted in box designing software.
Hope this clarifies what i want to say.
We r not discussing about box design but a good driver.
He was asking about the driver quality compared to seas etc.

Thanks bjorno and palesha,
Palesha I do want to use this driver as midbass. As far as what you said about the drivers in numbers I may pickup some quantity as some of my friends are aslo intereted in building speakers,so if you have some thing in mind then please tell me.
Let me just tell what I plan to do.
I want to build a speaker with 2 5.25" drivers for midbass and 1or 2 6.5" for bass or it can be 4 6.5" (2 for mid and 2 for bass) with one 1"dome, I had some second thoughts about going for pure three way configaration so I think 2.5 way should be good ( please comment on the same).
I have designed the outlook of the speaker with some curves and the front baffale is some what slanted ( I hate boring rectangular boxes, I also want to put the same on the 3D drawing so how to go about that),so what effect this is going to be on the sound is also one of the things bothering me.
secondly after thinking for long time decided to try out TL design instead of normal ones,so your inputs on the same.
Finally Please Bear with me and guide me in the right direction if I've done any mistakes.

If u want good midbass in 5.25', then u hv to pay good amount.
Better settle for 6.5", it will be cheap. As the cone is bigger u get naturally better bass than 5.25".
Hope this will help to finalize.

Ok
Hi Palesha,
Thanks for your input. Am ok with using 6.5" no worries.
Do you have any driver in particular that you want me to try or any source that you can recommend ?,if so please do let me know.you have not commented on the speaker design that I mentioned about please do so.
Am very very eager to start this project so please help me.inbetween I wanted to wind some coils for the crossover so went to my friend who runs an transformer manufacturing unit he says that the DCR of the coils is what makes the difference when you want to wind otherwise he says he can achive the given inductance in very less number of turns,so I searched all over the net to find the answer but every where they have just given some standard DCR for various guages of wire which he says he to has it but thats not much of help.now Iam stuck with no answer or solution for the problem.
whats your take on this ?
Looking forward to hearing from you soon.hope you don't mind helping me !!
