Evening, I'm struggling to use the search bar on the forum, I click on it them as soon as I try to enter anything it disappears.

Well that's no fun! Are you clicking on the "Search" at the upper right? What is your browser?

Happens to me as well in Chrome on my Android phone.

This unfortunately won't be getting fixed until we switch to our new software as this software is no long being updated and has horrible (well, non existent) mobile support, which will hopefully be very soon. In the meantime, I'd suggest searching Google like this:

site:diyaudio.com xyz

where xyz is what you want to search for.
