Sealed Tang Band W6-1139SIF Bracing

Hi all!

Among my many projects that are on hold or waiting for orders to be delivered I thought I'd muck about with my two Tang Band W6-1139SIF that I currently have in two 8 litre cabinets.

After much reading here about matching QTC to room gain curves I thought I would try these subs with a much lower Q of around 0.5 by making two 15 litre cabinets for them.

Internal dimensions are 510 x 240 x 130 mm and made of 18mm MDF.

I have the basic boxes made and now I am in the bracing stage. I have attached images (rough sketch at work) of my proposed bracing. I have made the driver slightly off center on the baffle and the two braces are slightly off center as well and opposed in position to create as many mismatched panels sizes as possible.

My question is regarding air-flow within the sealed cabinet. The braces created 4 different sections. Do I need to make holes in these braces? As I understand sealed cabs are about pressure not airflow so am I right in thinking it doesn't matter if they are holey braces or not? I have seen a PDF posted by Dave regarding this that has a tall but small footprint subwoofer with a brace running right up the middle and the driver in a lower chamber. This seems to apply here but can someone clarify, please?

Also, do I need to open up the rear of the driver cutouts? Is this as important on a sealed design as a ported?

I have routed the cutout and recess for the driver so far so any suggestions on bracing would be appreciated!

I know this isn't regarded is an audiophile driver but I am keen to get the best out of them and they do me fine for the moment, cheers!

You bracing looks pretty symmetrical, so I wouldn't worry about adding holes. I would be more concerned about losing some rigidity with the added holes than I would the air pressure. This is, of course, assuming that your box volume isn't changed too much either way. As far as adding some breathing room behind the cone, I wouldn't. Looks like you going to mount it recessed, anyway. So, you should be golden without it. Especially considering it's sealed. I did one of mine sealed once, but wasn't happy with it. These are some tough drivers to work with. But, well worth it.

Thanks, you confirmed my suspicions however, I routed out part of the cutouts before your response. I left spaces for the mounting screws to get some proper bite with about 14mm of board. Thanks!
