I'm just thinking that by offsetting the peak, I further create a more diverse range of reflections.

True, just overkill, so to speak, 😉 whereas used as a driver brace/damper is a worthwhile tweak.

Not too sure what you mean by "preloading the driver a little for better vibration damping"?
I thought all we were talking about was changing the flat surface at the rear of the sealed box to prevent the strong primary reflections coming back at the driver.
