screen tension

I was just finishing trimming my second screen (grille) when my blade slipped! The result was a 1" cut, two inches from the frame side. As I did not have any more of the material I unglued the material and then managed with some difficulty to stretch the cut to the rear.
The result is visually okay but on tapping the centre of each screen the overly stretched one has a distinctly higher pitch. As the DIY speakers are not yet finished I'm wondering what effect a tightly stretched screen might have on the sound? It is covering a ribbon and mid/bass driver.

I was taught it needed to be military tight, i.e. flip a quarter on it and if it doesn't bounce it's not tight enough. 😉 Never had a ribbon, but otherwise I've always stretched it extremely tight, just short of bending a sturdy frame to ensure no [mid] bass, lower mids 'drumming' and if the tweeter [horn] had to be set 'hot' to sound tonally balanced, so be it.
