Screaming deal on entry level TT..

I was checking out the lastest Stereofool and noticed a review of the Music Hall USB-1 and the unit looked familar. Checking around showed that it is a Sony PS-LX350 with a phono pre and USB board added. These are $250. After looking for the Sony, Amazon popped up and advertised it for $64 with free shipping. They show "what others also bought" below it and the Shure M97e was shown with a mystery price. Add it to the TT and its $54.

Several friends (younger "dudes") have been interested in playing with vinyl but dont want to spend $$ on new equipment and are leery of '70s stuff from Epay. This is the cheapest decent setup Ive seen - $118 with free shipping for a belt drive manual TT with removable head shell and a well liked Shure cartridge. Add a NAD PP or build a VSPS and play. It looks like the Sony may be discountinued since most of the other mail order electronics stores are out of stock.

Speed issues

Thanks Amazon for the posting of reviews. It appears the reason for the cut price is a high chance of speed regulation issues.

Yes I read a few complaints about that but the overall majority of reviews posted at other retailers was pretty positive. And since Music Hall chose it for their entry level, I feel its worth the risk - for $64. If it was still at the old retail of $150+, it wouldnt have gotten my attention.

I've heard the Music Hall and its sound is worth about $120. Not worth double that, tho.

Was that with the $30 AT cart and the build-in phono pre?

cheap cart, but IIRC, a better phono pre. It was OK, but kinda muddy and lack luster. I didn't care for it.
