What's the expense of the approprate level comaped to some of the options I mentioned (ballpark)? I might also talk to Jack at Electra-Print.

You'll have to check withBud in detail, but his OPTs rangefrom something like $250.pr up to well over a grand, in 3 or4 levels of quality.
I, so far, have only tried the cheap ones, and they are quite excellent.

I haven't checked Lundahl, but I know I can get a pair of 30W Hashimotos on E-pay for $360 any time I want to drop the money. Are these significantly better than the Fisher 500C transformers at a little over twice the price? I'm looking for some comparison points. Where does one notice the difference?
Some of the old iron was pretty good... i'd hate to hazard a guess (my 1 set of Fisher OPTs are as yet unused) and would be hard pressed to compare to stuff i've not even seen. And i'm sure application and execution play a role,

Precisely... I'm going to go ahead and use my Fisher iron, but what I was getting at was to try and see if there would be a tangible benefit by substituting some premium contemporary iron later on, and how much I'd have to spend for a worthwhile difference. I got my Fisher 500C transformers for 65-70 dollars apiece, and the 500B iron was cheaper. I was planning to use a triode connected 6EJ7, a DC-coupled source follower, and an autotransformer coupled phase splitter to drive some 6S4S triodes in class AB2 operation (very much Class A at low levels). I don't doubt the amp will sound decent - what is in question is the amount of improvement to be gained by blowing money on boutique-ish output iron.
I'm a frugal-phile, i'd certainly be using that iron if i had it (my next amp has iron collected from 2 SCA35 🙂, and my monobloks take advantage of iron from 2 Grundig consoles, amp currently in use took 2 ST70s to accumulate)

Well, yeah, so am I, so far. All my tube amps to date (4 so far), have used the cheaper offerings from Edcor and Hammond, with the exception of the Kingfisher, which used Fisher 500B output transformers. I'm trying to ascertain what I might get for my money if I ventured to splurge. My next ventures in SE amps will be using Jamesish (?) and Transcendar iron, which should be a step up in quality. I have a lot of SE transformers, so I've been trying to build up a stash of P-P transformers for experiments. So far, the Fisher transformers have been the easiest to get in terms of classic iron.
I have a 6B4G amp with James iron... very pretty, but middle of the road quality. They were cheap thou.

Scott transformer
I just joined DIYAudio and while looking around, I saw this thread... You probably have the answer by now, but if not.... I have a Scott 340A receiver and it uses the TRA-8-5-2 output transformers. This is a 27WPC 7591 based amp.... great sound....
