Scanspeak question

Yes, it can be true and is. Although it looks worse than in fact it is, since Scan Speak tend to publish relatively high resolution graphs.

The classic series models are starting to show their age a bit. They're still very good -but the 91300 (once upon a time the Peerless HDS) isn't far off and costs less. While the 6600 AirCirc beats all of them IMO, and is only slightly more expensive than the 9700. YMMV. Of the Classic range, the 9500 is probably the pick of the bunch & was the favoured unit in Lynn Olson's Ariel.

So is the Bentley Continental. Which sadly doesn't mean we can all afford one. 😉

Well, the Illuminator beryllium dome model (664000) is. I can't say the same about the Revelator model. Another expensive tweeter that needs significant EQ. Same goes for the Seas Magnum (and that's coming from someone who likes Seas drivers).

Thanks Scott

I've got the Scan Speak Revelator d2905/9900-00 1" Textile Dome.

I have them in George Short's North Creek Music Systems Borealis and Rhythm speakers. these are both two way speakers with Scan Speak Revelator tweeters crossed at 1700 hz to Scan Speak 18w/8542 7" mid woofers. The Rhythm is actually an MTM, with two woofers, and the Borealis is one of each driver. Crossover points in both speakers is the same.

These are all Bi-amped using aleph j amps and a BOSOZ pressed into service as a line level passive crossover.

It all works wonderfully.

I replaced the Revelators in the Borealis speakers with the Beryllium dome Scan Speak tweeters, and there is a very positive and discernible difference. The Beryllium drivers are sweet/warm sounding, with more inner details compared to the Revelators.

So if you had ideas on how to improve the Revelators...that would be welcome.

I have the 9700 in the Troels Amish floorstander and I find it very good across the board, even at loud listening levels its well behaved. Mind, I don't have a lot to compare it to in respect of other off the shelf tweeters, but it was certainly a step up from the unit in the Monitor Audio Silver 9i I had before.

The 97000's are in my Intimates speakers and I have the same opinion of them. I needed a good, power handling tweeter because of my 1st order Sonus Faber Extrema style xover.

Well...

I think I will have to consult Madisound, and get their ideas
on the shape of crossover curves and such...

Have a look at 2905 990 000's official FR and you'll notice
a pretty unusual one which in the end means more work on a
filter. You're in need of equalizing the response and high passing
it nicely if an improvement is what you have in mind.
