indeed this is a driver for a vented enclosure. A 120L vented enclosure tuned to 20Hz is perfect doable with this driver. A 90L vented is good for 25Hz.
for closed you need a higher QTS to work well. at least above 0.35 and preferable above 0.40

Great subwoofer.
I put it in a closed box = 50 liters, but strengthened it with the active Hypex module.
It can be put in a bass reflex, with a passive radiator, even like that ....
But when I see on measurements that the SS-30W mark at 30 Hz passes at minus 3.5 dB, then all doubts disappear.

thanks - ive acted on the plethora of advice here and gone with adding the passive at 2.5cu ft (which is the madisound recommendation), driven by mini dsp into ucd400. its been cut down in size as a result, though the squarer shape makes it better for experimenting with position.

noted - and thanks for supplying measurements. i probably should have tried the port first though i'd posted this in june - i will look to the possible advantages of having the passive now its there!
