My Scanspeak 23W 4557T02 looks like it has a copper clad aluminum voice coil former. I don't know metals as well as an expert, but I've seen titanium in different places used different ways, and I'm fairly sure this is aluminum with copper anodized/plated on the outer side.
The 2nd thing that made me really confused is my voice coil is only two layers. The wire goes from positive around the former to near the end, then wraps back up onto itself towards the cone to become the negative lead.
I was not able to take mine apart in a way that is easily put back together because of my lack in knowledge with speakers. I tried, I just don't know how. So, I just cut the surround and separated the spider from the basket.
I bought them from Madisound dec of '07.
