Commericial examples of these include North Creek Rhythm, reference plus, etc.
Basically a ProAc 2.5 with another woofer added.
Are there any of these DIY projects out there?

thats a commercial offering in the form of a kit. I dont think they would post their Xover online, I cant find it.
Hi IIRC
SOLEN may havea design on their site using 2 off 8530 revelator woofers + ring tweeter
Probably rather nics albeit pricey design.

pricey indeed
the audiocomponents reference one is also abit too far fetched with the sloped baffle. Cabinet costs would escalate.

thinking abt it.....
If I were to add another woofer to the ProAc 2.5 clone, is it just a simple case of doubling enclosure size if I leave the tuning freq alone?
Or will it inevitably need a Xover redesign?

The XO is online. It's always the last drawing

Actually they have crossovers right there, at least for the Reference Plus (the one with dual woofers like you said you wanted).

Here's the page that features other links with mechanical drawings etc.

EDIT: Whoops, Bricolo beat me. Do I get points for thoroughness anyway? 😉
eh thanks.
altho I realise now they use the revelator 9900 tweeter. and the cabinet expense tops it off.
Does anyone know of designs that are more easier to build? (and easier on my wallet)
thinking along the lines of a ProAc 2.5 + second identical woofer.
possible without a Xover overhaul?

Not a floor stander, but I built Scan Speak Solists from Madisound and was very happy with them. I sold them to my son when I got into horns

Put a pair of subs that will integrate well with them.

great,
i'm searching for solist kit loudspeaker you realized.

thanks in advance.
if you want you could send me it by e-mail
i wait your answer

Is it just me,
I see soo many private projects/plans building talll big floorstanders with 2 * vifa woofers.
Once you want to find DIY projects abit more classy, the same talll sleek floorstander, now with Scan SPeak, Focal, etc woofers, I get nothing
😕
Is the myth where you can build a superior speaker to commerical offerings a fake one?
exceptions are the ProAc 2.5,Thor, Reference Plus, and the MTM Focal tower from Zalytron. Even ALL of those when compared to similiar commerical offerings they are smallll and diminutive.
Example: VAF signatures(uses Seas Excel drivers), they surpass all DIY projects I have ever heard off that use Seas drivers.

i hear ya all the way on that. not much to be found at all with high-end drivers. ya plenty of diy kits/designs using vifas etc right now i have a 2-way floor-standing TM using a scan-speak mid/woofer and scan-speak tweeter trying to design a floor-standing MTM now to hold two mid/woofers

I would be glad to send it to you but my scanner isn't working right now and I have no way of getting it into the computer.
If I can get my scanner working, I will scan and e-mail you. I need to find a wide SCSI active terminator _grin_

I'd love a copy of the Solist crossover schematic too. If you are able to ermes one, could you please send it to me? that would be wonderful.
tech.knockout-
Have you heard the Response 2.5, either a copy or the original?
Please don't say you want more bass, because if it's one thing that I've found the 2.5 lacking is midrange, not bass!
It wouldn't be a bad idea to have dual 8545 or 8545 + 8535 in 2.5 or 3 way guise for better midrange.
Like the BESL 4.5.

The ProAc Response 3.8 has it's dual 7" Scanspeak drivers- and just look at the FR graph! (found in the Stereophile review archives) Incredibly boosted bass.

Re: thinking abt it.....
Absolutely no and absolutely yes.
🙂 /sreten.
I'd also go for more than twice box volume and a lower port frequency.

This is a long shot, but do still have the Solist crossover schematic Ermes?
If you still have it, will you please email it to tktran303 AT yahoo DOT com.
I'll be using it with the 9700 tweeter. I think Madisound call it the "Premium" crossover, thought I'm not sure if the schematic is the same as the standard one for the 9500 tweeter....

What about something like the Prem33.....

Re: thinking abt it.....
You will need to change the woofer crossover section somewhat to account for the change in impedance, and unsure on tweeter details but probably remove padding for the tweeter or add padding to the woofers.
