Does anyone have any experience with both 8 inch woofers, SB Acoustics SB23NRX ( either 4 or 8 ohms) and Peerless HDS Nomex 830869?
Kindly share your opinion.
I want to use either of these in a 2 way with crossover around 1500Hz. Both of these seem to have high distortion past 1Khz in test results available online.
While Klippel tests available shows 75% CMS limits at 4mm for SB23 and around 2mm the 830869. This makes me wonder if the Nomex is that much worse than the SB23 in bass?!
Thanks.

The Nomex in 8" has not a so good reputation about its bass...
Go for the SB23NRX, there are a lot of design with it, good driver with good average distorsion and easier than many 8" to work with in a 2 ways. You will have to pay more for a better driver in a 2 way conf. It's certainly not so easy to cut-off a tweeter with a 8"... would ask certainly some care, but many have done certainly good designs already with a tweeter wave guide and a 8". Can look at what is doing Augerpro here if you have a 3D printer or some facilities to 3D print for a wave guide (or look at Heissman)
ScanSpeak is also doing a wooden polypro that has a good Q/P. If monnety permits a 6" Revelator works fine also for bass and this size is easier to marry with a tweeter, you will not be disapointed by the size reduction and what the bass does with it.
On Audioexcite site you may find an acurate measurement of the SB with some nice 2 ways designs I would follow in your shoes...
Heissman acoustic has also interresting 2 ways designs with some good drivers less expensive than a revelator if you decide to go towards 6".

What is the problem with it?The Nomex in 8" has not a so good reputation about its bass...
See the attached pdf.Would like to review the Klippel tests on the Peerless 830869. Where can one view this info? J
Klippel data on the SB23 is gone, what remains is the forum thread and from the discussion it seems that the suspension limited excursion is around 4-4.5mm.
Distortion tests for both are available in HiFicompass and the nomex has worse distortion.
But still Nomex has good reputation for midrange whereas SB23 doesn't.

Do you have any personal experience with either of these woofers?
