SB Acoustics SB12MNRX25-4 as a fullrange

Has anyone tried to run this driver fullrange ?
It looks fairly flat up to 10 khz on manufacturer`s graphs , with -5 db drop up to 16 khz . I was thinking about running it fullrange with aid from my amp's treble knob that starts regulating from 10 khz so this would be ideal , or maybe with help of a tweeter playing from 10-11 khz with only a cap and resistor in series.
How would it stack against the specialised fullranges ?

As long as you don't expect too much from this driver, it will serve you well.

On the SBA website, I see a SB12MNRX2-25-4, but not a SB12MNRX-25-4. 4” SB12MNRX2-25-4 / Norex – Sbacoustics . I assume this is the driver you are talking about.

It is presented by SBA as a midrange, not a woofer. The Xmax is limited, and Sd cone area is small, so don't try to play it loud or the bass energy will overwhelm it.

Because of the high directivity at upper frequencies, it will have a narrow sweet spot. I am guessing that you will want to listen to it on-axis, but only experimentation will tell you what the best axis is.

SBA makes a similar driver as a mid-woofer which might serve you better SB12NRX25. They also make some very affordable full range drivers you should look at, such as SB10PGC21 and SB65WBAC25-4

I have the SB12NRXF25-4. This model has a foam surround which is supposed to help improve the midrange performance vs. the rubber surround version. These are very well made and I consider them "gutsy". That means, plenty of bass, plenty of power handling also. The midrange sound "quality" isn't nearly as good as a true full-range driver however. If you cross low enough to a high quality tweeter; they make a great, compact size 2-way.

If you want a cleaner and more accurate "sound quality" in the critical midband; you should consider a true full-range driver instead.

PM me if you wish; I can describe the various sound "qualities" of the 5 different 4 inch drivers I have used most recently.

Originally i meant SB12MNRX25-4 run as fullrange or with superteeter ,crossed at 500 hz to a woofer . I know i wouldnt get bass from it ,i wondered about it's mid-high capabilities.
Now i see that the new version of this driver is even more extended in the treble.
The SB12NRXF25-4 is a midwoofer from what i see so the weaker mid and high range is somewhat to be expected.
@oldspkrguy do you think SB12MNRX2-25-4 could compete with drivers such as :
fountek fr88 ex, peerless TC9FD18-08 , visaton b 80 , SB65WBAC25-4 ?

I have only tried Mark Audio and SB 4 inch models MOST recently. The SB12...models I have tried are built like a tank but I can't honestly say how they would compare to your above mentioned makes and models in "sound quality". For build quality; I would say SB is very hard to beat; true of their standard and Satori lines both. I believe the TC9...is the model everyone seems to gush over and give high praise for but I personally have never heard them. Yes, the NRXF is listed as a mid-woofer and NOT a midrange. My current favorite driver is the new Mark Audio Pluvia 7PHD (P7PHD). This is the paper cone version; not metal cone. It has (purposely) a roll-off on the high end but I find that to not be an issue for "ME". I am in my mid-60's so I need a high output super tweeter for 10 KHz and above regardless of what drivers below that I might have. The P7PHD does everything very well and I have ZERO complaints. (It can even do 40 Hz surprisingly well in the proper box)!

I'm sure others will chime in soon here on your models listed above...Gotta go; FedEx just now dropped off my new SB29NRX75-6 10 inch woofers; time to play!

Cheers!
