Okay that makes more sense on the way I was thinking about the RS Series’s . Thanks Wolf_teeth.Those RSS came out in 2005, IIRC. The HE line seems to have been discontinued, but have only been out a couple years.
The original RS shielded midbasses were around 2004, and then a redesign hit when they removed the shielded options around 2009.
Yes, as A4eaudio wrote - I meant the Epique and the Signature series as "the newer Dayton series". IMO the older RS series is still a better choice in many size ranges of Dayton drivers.
Not necessarily "better" than the SB, especially if you're going without subs (less cone area in the RS than the SB for any given driver diameter due to the phase plug) - but a valid, different choice on a budget for a small speaker,

Thanks for your advice. I will be adding a subwoofer to this system after the speakers are built. So how is the micro or inter detail of the dayton RS drovers the paper vs Aluminum? I would personally prefer the Paper drivers but, see so many options in other driver materials that can take more temperature changes without out change sound of the drivers like paper drivers.
Are you sure ? Pro drivers are treated paper drivers with the most higher power handling, and can be used in outdoor application...I would personally prefer the Paper drivers but, see so many options in other driver materials that can take more temperature changes without out change sound of the drivers like paper drivers.
Yes am sure in my case. I have Fostex Fe series and the changes in temperature effect’s the sound of the Driver. Yes I agree most of pro Audio drivers are made of some kinda treated paper and do have high power handling.
I prefer the paper versions of the bigger 150 and 180 Daytons - but I haven't personally tried the RS100P pr the 125P. But I can't say how they hold up in warmer and more humid climates 🙂
Erin just published a review of a speaker with the bigger SB15CAC. My recommendation would still be to try to make it a sealed box and add a small,. cheap sub to the system 🙂
So I got the Dayton Audio RS125-4 5" Reference drivers on sale. I will put them in a box I already have with a tweeter. I know it’s not ideal but, I will get sense of what these Reference drivers can do. I will take a picture of the speaker when it’s installed. It’s just a break in box. Then I will build the right box for it. I will be playing christmas music in the back or country music what ever my wife likes. I’m hoping by February I will buy the SB Drivers now and do a project with them. I will keep you all updated. Thanks Jeff
Ya I almost got the paper drivers but, they were not on sale. So I got the aluminum drivers on sale. Hopefully the Reference dayton Paper drivers will be next. 🤞. My wife had mentioned something to me about building a speaker like my dad’s I built a long time ago. Maybe I will next year.I prefer the paper versions of the bigger 150 and 180 Daytons - but I haven't personally tried the RS100P pr the 125P. I have the SB acoustics Bromo speakers, I built them 2 1/2 years ago or so. They really punch above their weight, the tweeter is a gem, great clarity and for the money if you need a small bookshelf, I don’t think you can really beat these.
Since you have the RS125-4 midwoofers, my Stance design could he right up your alley.
That’s great news wolf-teeth. I do have some very expensive birch ply-wood from wood craft store. If they are small enough I also have some real wood laying around the house and work I can use. 👍😊.
I see that Mensicus Audio use to sell the kit of your Stance Speaker design. I miss Mark and Chad. I have known them for 30 plus years and have bought from them over the years. Hurts because it was a michigan based company and great people to work with. Last kit my wife bought for me never showed up and something went wrong with at the Factory I was told. Bummed one of the last times I tried to buy from Meniscus Audio. I did see your kit on the parts express tech forum but, nothing about the box design but, pictures? I can pay for the kit design through you and just buy the parts if you don’t mind? I’m thinking more towards December 15th 2024. Thanks Wolf-teeth. No reason to pay me as the plans are public on PETT, but if you need more information let me know. I still have all of the info and the speakers.
Shoot me a PM if you want to talk further...

Omg. I'm so sorry. I'm probably not fully mature yet. Coming from one of the more respected voices here on the forum, I just couldn't help but laugh at this.was well laid and documented, and very pretty!
Anyway, I just ordered a pair of the sb29rdnc and a pair of the sb12cacs mids for my car based on what I've read. Really looking forward to them.
