Hi all, firstly yes i'm a new member so please be gentle. 😉
I recently bought a Sanyo XU30 projector on the cheap with no bulb and after hours of studying the service manual to one of its sister models trying to find a way of fooling it into thinking it actually had a lamp in it i realised it wasn't actually failing on it!
Anyway, it turns out this particular projector works fine with no lamp in it. I stuffed a small headtorch in it and i can see the image from a source (only just bright enough to be seen looking into the lense but...). I was wondering if it's supposed to work like this?
Also i bought another UHP lamp which turns out to be only 150W not the original 200W, does anyone know if it's safe to connect to the original ballast?
Thanks

ok i've opened it all up, and i see a trimmer pot on the end oh the ballast, but i'm not sure which way is down or up, any ideas?
Also the lower power lamp i have been using (only for short tests so far) keeps turning off during initialisation, should i be worried?
thanks

Ok, i guess the low-tech versions work best! managed to reduce the brightness but the lamp still wont stay on for more than a few seconds, 8seconds with the ballast at min power and about 2 secs at max. I presume this is due to running the lamp at 200W rather than the stated 150W and i've damaged the electrodes?
Also since i've had to modify the cabling as the two connectors didn't match i've realised the lamps probably DC(is this right?) but i have no idea which pole of the lamp is which. Or even if it makes and difference? it's a normal UHP with a screw thread on the back and a wire from the other end of the lamp to the case.
Thanks

your lamp is AC,
dont bother, the economical model of projector is like 200W rather than the stated 150W
