Hi alll.
Recently picked up a Sansui CD-3100M I would like to try and resurrect. Mechanically/electronically most components appear to work, however the sync between the platter and the laser mechanism is off. I have replaced the belt as it was worn, with the closest original size I could find.
The symptom is that the laser mech will not stay dropped and allow the platter the reset itself. The laser mech drops itself into place when I manually reset all the cogs, and upon power up the cogs attempt to turn the platter with the laser mech still protruding through the platter.
I have read the manual and it does not have any error code/troubleshooting documentation.
Is there anyone familiar with Sansui CD player error codes that can shine some light on this for me?
Thank you!

It looks a lot like a mechanical synchronization problem (initial synchronization of the platter mechanism in relation to the optical unit mechanism).
There must be a synchronization procedure in the SM.
