They sell rattle spray cans of "tar" at auto stores. It will take weeks to cure out.

I'm loving the pair - from post 1.
Recipe:
Glue and add sand layer, one per day (only takes a few minutes per application)
After 5 - 7 times coat with WATER based poly to seal it all in (just use brush).
I'm going to see how this works with sand linings - I think it might be just right:
