New to this site. I am trying to salvage a shelf system that I've had for a while. I want to bring it back to school but it is an RCA one that has the 5 CD disc changer and has a volume around 1ft^3 so its pretty big. What I want to do is remove the CD changer and condense the whole unit. The only reason I am even bothering is because the sound is very excellent and can fit the college budget.
Any ideas?

I don't know your unit, but many of the cube shaped systems are similar. They are designed to look like a stack of components, but in a lot of them, everything is mounted on the front panel, with a main circuit board projecting rearward. In some you can remove the CD assembly, but probably still need to keep parts of the circuit boards.
Take the cover off it and look inside so you know what you are up against.
