dig out from Marantz CD-74/CD-84

Hi rfbrw,

The schematic diagram that came with my CD-74 (SAA70xx/TDA1540 - my first cdp ever, now stored) shows a dig out on a pcb coded PW10 and a lead coded JW01 (JW02 = GND). Unfortunately the actual RCA connector on this machine is not connected (yep, labeled "N.C."). I could send you this schematic, if that should help.
Only the mk II verson of the CD-84 has a working spdif out, but fitted with SAA72xx/TDA1541 or an early version of this DAC coded N2992, with gold pins... (according to a 1985-86 brochure).

I'd love to fit my beautiful CD-74 with a spdif out! So why don't you share your hard core skills & expertise with us, rfbrw, eternal gratititude will be yours......

I have rough draft with lots of 74 sries logic but it needs refining. The final version will use a CPLD. Its still a work in progress.

The information I have on the PCF2705/3523 would make it an I2S input device hence its ability to link directly to the SAA7310.It also seems that by the time of the SAA7310, Philips had completely abandoned offset binary in favour of two's comp.
The SAA7000, OTOH, has no I2S interface and when connected to the TDA1540 or the TDA1541 either directly or via the SAA7030, it outputs simultaneous left and right offset binary data.
So it seems whatever option one chooses it will take more than the PCF chip.
