Wow, Over a year later and still no audio system work done, just many other and some newer ideas put into place on the RV, working most every day as long as I could since late spring up until now. Weather is the only thing that keeps me from this fun stuff and not being young so just to sore sometimes or a bit burned out. I rebuilt the front of the RV to better match the style of the rear and custom ducting into the roof ducts for the AC units I removed so I can build a custom Evap cooler and mount it on the front of the unit. Removed 11 things from the roof, rebuilt the 3 plumbing vents, sealed it all up the added 4 layers of 1/2 foam insulation(had to be thin so it would bend over the curved roof) I had to extend the sidewalls up before that, then used peal and stick roofing underlayment and painted metal roofing which was fun to bend over the roof and screw down but turned out great. Also installed a Takagi on demand condensing 95% effiecient water heater, 11 valves, a lot of electrical, triple element water filter, etc.....into a very small space where I can also get decent access to it all, took 3 weeks of long days and many trips to hardware stores. Saves a ton of energy and all the hot water we can ever need. I did a ton of other important projects as well, should be done on the exterior by mid to late spring depending on the weather and hopefully all the interior insulation mods as well. ( A lot of work there though as much is needed as I found when digging deeper into everything, not happy with the crappy insulation done on this very high end 5th wheel, to say the least)
Also finished all the Anderson window installs, all custom fit so quite a bit of work and removed one new window to install a single element French door by my desk so now we have two doors, putting in another one in place of the original door this year as well.
I am still working on audio plans, going to build the SLOB system and see what happens, looking into something like the Minidsp Flex 8 so I can do two, three +sub, etc....and have good tuning ability. I wonder how good the DAC section will actually sound, would be cool if not needing an outboard DAC but does not seem to likely. In the end I want a pretty simple system, as much as I can make it, and likely to build a few speaker designs so the DSP would be a great help in getting it figured out even if I end up with an all passive or passive/active setup.
I picked up a WiiM Pro Plus on sale, did not need the Plus part but wanted to check it out, love the unit so far. Also got an open box Topping E70 Velvet for a very good price. I might end up with multiple DAC's, it would be used on the primary drivers, mid or mid tweets if go with passive crossovers there.
-----------
If I end up running the OB speakers I will know I will most likely have to have a sub, two subs, one behind each speaker would be best for the least amount of time and effort, cost, etc but would need tuned I am sure. If I use the Edgarhorns as they are most definitely, even if use the SLOB under the mid and tweeter section. I am looking into running wiring for multiple small subs as I get closer to redoing the floor as well. At least I could put one or two in the bottom of the 5ft long kitchen island.
There was a big space under my desk for the spare tire and sewer hose storage I was considering using but I ended up deciding to insulate the crap out of it instead since it only had 3/4" insulation and then not enough room for what I was considering, it would have to of been right under my desk chair and just did not seem a good idea there.
For now still using our Martin Logan Vision X sound bar that has developed an issue with the analog input so using its onboard DSP/DAC for now, it actually uses it anyway and sounds pretty decent with the Wiim Pro Plus.
------
Later in life I just might play with building my own DAC(s), amps, etc....but that will be at least two more years to finish up the RV before I can do that, if decent weather and no big fires all summer like we had 3 years in a row, got two good summers lately but one very long and nasty winter and damages from it I had to also fix last year.
Have a most excellent and productive New Year, it is going to be very interesting in so many ways, challenging as well but in the end I believe humanity might finally be heading in a better direction, sure hope so, that or fail......I hope good things are ahead of us.
