there were two hi-temp paints i have used with satisfying results. one is made for/by Ace Hardware (USA), and the other one i can't remember right now, but will post tomorrow.
i used the Ace on a power transformer that gets pretty hot and the paint is not chipping in anyway. it is too shiny though for my taste that's why i looked for another. that one i used to paint (after cleaning) my rusting Hammond 1628SEs and a Hammond choke. the visual result i prefer better than the Ace paint.
in the photo gallery i have a picture of a 45 amp where the power tranny was painted with the Ace paint, and a 2A3 amp where the choke was painted with this other hi-temp paint i can't remember right now.

I've always used blackboard paint for transformer laminations. Works fine, and it's dead cheap. I can't imagine why it's still on sale, though - wouldn't have thought there were any blackboards left!
