Rubbing voice coil slightly

I have pair of JBL 4301B monitors and as im a drummer and muso I fed them a little to much power whilst having a beer.
They started farting with voice coil to magnet rub .
So I trained them to play at a volume that they were happy with I then very slowly went higher and higher with volume and the result is that they are much better , and there must be clearance now.

Rectified.
Hardly.
I suspect you've fried the voice coil wire varnish which caused the scraping noise.
By letting them cool down, and running them again, you've probably scraped the blistered varnish of the voice coil and turned it into a fine powder in the motor gap.

Lets face it.
Everyone knows that bookshelf speakers are exactly what should be used by muso's as practice gear.

Im not just a muso I built class ab 6cm5 amplifiers at 12 year old Done electronics and radio trades Fixed tvs and old school hifi all my life .An idiot that overdrives speakers yep Im that too.Ive never reconed a speaker in my life .Love music and electronics 🙂

Well beer does that to the best of us.

As does a liberal quantity of red wine and at times port.

I pity my neighbours. And my eardrums - but they are kind of stuck with me.

Bottom line though, a three quarters fried driver is always three quarters fried.

There is only one answer: a bigger speaker able to take the punishment - as experience has shown me that promises of self control and sensibility all go out the window after the three millionth beer.

And hell - as a self confessed drummer this is never going to end up in a flash of sensibility is it?

Sounds like a project in the making.
