Ruark Equinox Driver Quest

Hi Philvv,

Its a long time since I posted anything on here, as I have a house renovation project ongoing at the moment which is consuming all my time.:headbash: I still have the Equinoxes and they sound wonderful, even more so now that they are in a bigger room. The Seas driver W18NX001 is a drop-in replacement. However, removing the driver is not as straight forward as just removing the hex-bolts and it falls out. There is a layer of adhesive between the cabinet and the driver chassis which provides an air-tight seal, so the driver cannot be pried out without damaging the cabinet. From what I remember I had to force the driver out from the inside. I removed the tweeter by forcing this out of its recess through the rear port, then removed the driver by applying force to it through the tweeter aperture. Make sure you protect the cabinet around the driver recesses when levering the drivers out to prevent damage. Removing the Drivers is the most difficult part of the process. Once the cabinet is free of the Vifa units the tweeters can be re-installed. The Vifa units were originally soldered, but I cut the ends and installed spade connectors, as I wasn't sure whether the new drivers would be any good and soldering would invalidate any returns. Once installed with spade connectors I was delighted at the results and they have remainined in the cabinets ever since. I would advise soldering as it is a more secure fixing method, but if your Seas drivers are new then use a temporary connection first to ensure that you like the sound, before soldering. Hope this helps and thanks for reading the article. Regards... D 🙂
