hi I've bought a rcx1500 to try and fix from ebay. the issue was described as a CD stuck inside this doesn't seem to be the case however opening the unit I find that it uses the icepower 200asc module .
I've noticed a wire dangling suspiciously does anyone have any idea what this might be ? anything else i need to be aware of when trying to fox this is there anyway of checking the capacitors are discharged with them still attached ? bought as a learning exercise but would be nice to get it up and running again thanks

It looks like someone did a sloppy job with soldering a wire to ground where
there seems to be a need for a ground connection at W200.
Other than that, I have no recommendations.

OK thanks I had look at the datasheet and didn't see any mention of it definitely looks a bit sloppy so I can assume it's been repaired before .these units seems plaged with problems so i should have dond my reaserch but it would be nice If I could salvage the amplifier modules
Just measure the voltage across both legs of the cap.checking the capacitors are discharged with them still attached
To discharge them use a resistor of say 3 or 5 Watt 10 to 20 ohm.
No plyers or screwdrivers 🙂

When discharged, a few one or two volts will remain on the big caps and again slowly rise but that is of no concern to your safety.

thank-you i bet that was horrible !!!
I make him sit back away when were looking at anything that might have 240v and I've made him very aware how dangerous capacitors are I'm lucky that he's quite scared of things we warn him about . I'd like to know that it's safe while I'm working on it for my self as well as him . I've just started a course to become an electrician so I've learnt that my cheap multimeter isn't going to cut it from a safety point of view so that's next on the list

Yes, I can still smell the burning flesh some 60 years later. Remember also, keep your child out of arms length in case you get a shock. A hand with a tool in it on their face can be very painful.
Good advice thank-you it's also easy to forget how many thing take apart that might have springs and stuff come flying out like locks etc . do you happen to know if it is possible to drain capacitors still in circuit ? I want to make sure I haven't miss understood
Sorry I have no knowledge of this unit but not certain that removing the amp module should be the first move. What are the symptoms you are trying to fix?
I'm usually look for obvious things so I saw the dodgy cable and though of investigating further . I think it's going to be a bit of a pain in the *** project it won't read cds and didn't come with the wireless dongle so can't connect to the Internet radio stations . I've asked rotel for a replacement dongle snd remote but arnt holding out much hope . I think if I can have a play with the icepower modules it will be worth the 50quid I paid for it as I've wanted to try them out for a while
I don't want to disappoint you but debugging such a power supply isn't straightforward. First you will need a schematic and I doubt this will exist. Perhaps some experienced members with this particular supply can help you out but I doubt this is an easy job.
Whishing you all the best neverteless. 🙂
