Rotel RCD 950 issue

Hello all. Just wondering if anyone has any experience with a Rotel RCD 950 or Rotel 930? Thought it was a laser issue but turned out to be the closed tray switch wasn't being triggered and also the cam that raises the laser assembly was only raising it part way. With the mechanism out it would play fine as soon as i triggered the switch and jimmied up the mechanism so the laser was all the way up. I've removed the entire mechanism and laser assembly from the player but I'm unable to remove the tray itself to get at the drive gear and cam to turn the gear to the correct position to interlock correctly with the cam to raise the laser when it reaches the fully closed position. It's hitting a stop which prevents the tray from opening too far but I see no way of getting at it to remove the tray and turn the gear. Got the screw out holding the gear in with a bit of effort but there's no way of turning the gear independently from the tray .Any ideas? The service manual shows it all apart but I don't see how to get it apart without danaging the plastic bits. Thanks, Mike.

I figured it out with no help from the manual. There's 2 small plastic arms on each side towards the front that have to be pulled out with a small utensil simultaneously to release the drawer - after you take out the little pin that hits the open leaf switch. The real hard part is getting the drive gear and cam in exactly the right position along with a tiny plastic pin underneath the gear so it's on the correct side of the close leaf switch. Then you have to slide the drawer in but only when the gear is in a position where there's no teeth to allow the drawer to slide. Then there's a ridge under the gear that will stop the drawer from sliding if it's in the wrong position. The whole thing is a freakin' nightmare to get together properly. It's together again but the motor doesn't have enough force to turn the cam sufficently to raise the lens assembly high enough. I have to give the bottom of the lens assembly a little push and then the lens can start it's read . Then it plays fine . So I guess it comes down to getting a new belt that won't slip before the lens is fully raised. Hope I can source a belt and I hope I can install the belt without having to remove the tray again because I spent hours getting the damn thing in trying multiple combinations of gear and cam positions.
