This is my first posting on this site. I have a Rotel RA-1060 amplifier, with some B&W 685's. I love the system. I'm an Electronic Engineer but I cannot figure out this problem!
Every now and then the input fuses (straight off the transformer) would blow. Now I initially thought this was moreso an amplifier problem (I recapped the main caps, and inspected the board for shorts, dry solders etc..) and it worked for a while.
I tested my output from my computer (primary input to amp) and noticed that when I bring the PC out of hibernation, the left channel input to the amplifier gives a DC offset of 0.5V (this is usually when the fuses blow). I think this large DC offset (which settles down to 5mV after a few seconds) is what is blowing the amp by overloading it, even though the volume is down..
What are your thoughts regarding this?

make further testings but with another source ... a normal CD or DVD player ....
that is a very long story to explain through a post but in plain greek there is an issu on how your pc and your amplifier handles the ground .
this could be some issue that is related to the power supply of your pc .... see with another source and we talk again

I am almost confident that this is the case. To test I need to grab some more fuses, however when I ran the amplifier last night firstly with no source, and then with my iphone as the source there was no problems. With the PC fully booted I then used the PC and there seemed to be no problem whatsoever.

what is so called ground in the mini jack plug of your pc might be related with the ground of your socket in more than one ways
on the other side what is so called ground in the input of your amplifier is something totally else than the ground of your socket
the ground of your amplifier is almost artificial related to your socket's ground
so ...messing up with things like that might bring your amplifier out of balance at some point
there is farther more to explain about that but i find it pointless ....proceed with your testings ..let us know more
