Amplifier turned on with volume too high, tuner connected on, burst of sound, now frequency response non-linearity. Too much bass below 100hz, substantial bass distortion, too little output 1k to 6khz. No smoke or smell. Suggestions please. Negative feedback loop?

One channel or both affected?
Could the problem be speaker damage? Also some speakers have fuses for the various drive units.

I can't think of anything simple or obvious for this. It is not a normal failure mode at all and at this point I would say it needs some simple tests just to see what is going on. Testing would however involve the use of a an oscilloscope and signal source to look at the output. The result of that would determine where to look for the issue.
It sounds to me like it is not the amplifier. I had one of these and they are 30w per channel. What speakers are you using? Do you have another amplifier to try with the speakers?
Tbh this is my feeling as well.It sounds to me like it is not the amplifier.
Both channels... the only other thing I can think of is that you have caught the tone defeat switch and accidently turned the the tone stage on and the bass and treble are not centred.
Beyond that... you are going to have to test it or have it tested for you.
I should have said I "have" one of these not had. It has been sitting on a shelf since my son returned it to me a couple of years ago. I have too many amps and have just built another one. If you can't get yours working you are welcome to it for the postage, or I will be in Kingsbridge, Devon at the beg of July if you were able to collect it from there. I can post some pics if you are interested. Rob.thank you gentlemen. the speakers are fine with another amp
