Hi everyone.
I decided to take some pics and see if anyone could tell me the thing that needs to be most improved upon.
This particular setup is qa-1650.
Buhl 80 overhead w/ 600 watt halogen - crappy optics, some scratches
Split fresnel
Screen is Heavy duty light blocking pull down shade from Lowes. Tried the silver coating on one side, but wasn't happy with it. Couldn't get it coated evenly and it looked like crap, so using the other uncoated side of the screen
I have new triplet lens on the way (I think, last I heard from diylabs it was to be mailed last week, but i haven't seen it and no confirmation it's even been shipped)
I also have 400W MH setup, but I'm not putting it into this projector since everything will be built into custom case when I've got the details ironed out, so why bother retrofitting this projector...
The link is to a directory of most recent pics after finally getting the laptop settings correct for running the panel, something I'd just been in too much of a hurry to take the time to do before.
The subfolder "firsttest is running through regular dvd player using s-video.
2nd test folder is through laptop vga, but not as much tweaking of the settings.
The main folder (direct link) is the current settings running through vga off the laptop with modifications to gamma settings etc. (whopping improvement over standalone dvd player using the panel's settings)
Other specs are
Video adapter on laptop ATI IGP 340M
Planned improvements - new fresnel and Benq 557s teardown
So, any suggestions are greatly appreciated for what I should consider the most essential to correct. I can take brutal so have at it.
Oh, I'm not the best photographer. Got the flash turned off, but I don't have a tripod. I had to get a funny angles to have something to try to rest the camera on, so things aren't cockeyed like they look in a couple of the pics.

True - I know a few of the things it needs, but what I was hoping to hear was "I see 'abc' as being the most obvious problem and i think that 'xyz' would be the most effective in resolving it".
Possibly point out any issues that I have neglected to consider or "If you resolve 'this issue', then I think it will negate 'this issue'
Things of that nature. As I've only been running it a short time and it is new and exciting and amazing to me, I was hoping a more experienced and well trained eye might be able to point out things that I may be overlooking - things that time might make more obvious to me that I don't recognize right now.
Thanks for your response.

People arent going to be able to give you an opinion on a setup that hasnt even been built yet. You did say that you were going to build a custom case. When you start building it... post up pics and then people may be able to help out more.
The biggest problem with building custom cases are quality of the optics used and spacing of the optics. The majority of people screw this part up. The best advice I can give is dont cheap out on the optics (I got a few items from Edmund Optics, Not nearly as expensive as people think and the service is outstanding!). And watch your spacing carefully.
Also... look on the AVS forums for high quality screen ideas and guides. You said you were having a problem with getting an even coat of paint on your cloth when making the screen. This makes a world of difference!! And will improve your image quality.
