50mv is quite high and will likely make the amp run hot. Where did you get that value from?
If the value is the voltage across the source resistors, you would connect one meter probe to each end of the source resistor.

The test procedure says 50ma (milliamps, not millivolts) per FET. That's 0.005v across a 0.1 ohm resistor. In my opinion that is still a bit high but may not be high enough to make the amp run hot. If you set it to 0.005v, drive the amp until it's near thermal and make sure that the bias doesn't increase when it's hot.
What reason were you, Perry! with IRF540 in place, and bias in the halfway, the stage works perfectly! even at high input levels, the warming is normal, everything perfect, another problem solved, thank you very much for the help, you're a genius.
