What do you mean when you say a channel is out?
IF it's dead but the amp isn't drawing excessive current, operate all potentiometers and switches through their entire range to see if the dead channel ever makes any sound.
The output transistors are the large transistors on the left of the amp. The power supply transistors are on the right.
Replace and tighten all clamps before applying power.

when I hook up one speaker to channel 1 it works good. I hook same speaker to channel 2 it does not play. if I hook up the speaker bridged it works but i'm thinking maybe the amp is only puting out half of it's power. I checked the fets on the left whith a mm on diode and they seem ok ,but the four little ones on the back to the right dont seem ok. I tried all the swiches but I will try them agin. thank you for your quik respons Perry.
If it produces clean audio bridged, there isn't likely to be anything wrong with the power amp section. It's almost certainly a preamp problem (RCA jack, switch, pot...).
The smaller components in the back of the amp are rectifiers and regulators.
The model number for this amp is a P500-2.

thank you Perry, I will try agin tomorow morning. the only rca jacks are the source, two are . Pass-thru. two are input.two red and two white.
I tried all the switches. the left Chanel is very low volume. it looks like in order to get the board out to get to the other side. What would be the best way. ?
Although it's possible, it's rare to have a channel produce clean audio and have a problem in the power amp section of the amp. It's almost always a preamp level problem.
Does the gain control work as it should (changing the level) for both channels?

Yes it turns both channels up. when I turn up the left channel it's very low with loud distortion pops and cracking noises. By preamp do you mean the signal coming into the amp itself? from the source? I hooked it to my galaxy s7 ear phone jack going to two rca plugs. To the input rca's
Some amps don't work well with ungrounded signal sources. Connect the RCA shields on the amp to the main ground to see if that makes a difference.
I tried grounding the RCA shields but no improvement. Something with the left channel must not be working. Any ideas?
I don't have this schematic diagram. Contact Rockford to see if they have released it. After getting the schematic diagram, you'll have to trace the signal through the amp to see where the level changes.
Don't run it bridged for any significant length of time. Testing is OK.

Rockford will not release the schematics because they still repair them. If I pay 125.00 they will repair or replace it. I think I know what you are referring to by preamp. the IC chip right?
The preamp is everything before the power amp driver board input (RCAs >> preamp stage >> power amp stage >> speaker terminals). Without a diagram, it's going to be difficult to troubleshoot. Seankane (another member of this forum) may be able to help, either with troubleshooting or by taking it in for repair.
