RME fireface 800. Need help on finding a component.

Hi,

I recently bought a defected Fireface. The problem seems to be on the firewire input/output. The module doesn't speak to my mac.

I opened it up and could see a missing, and probably burned component. The label says VD1202. Anyone with schematic or similar fireface who knows?

Burned component is very likely metal oxide varistor used for surge protection, I have seen VD designator used for those before. Missing varistor shouldn't render device inoperative so there is probably also some other defect(s).

Looks like a TVS diode array. Protecting the 4 data wires and (usually) +12V.
This "usually" can be the root of the problem.

Have you tried the FW800 port?
I think VD1200/VD1201 are same type of TVS that is blowing up at VD1202.

Yes. I have tried FW800, and it is also dead. Guess therefore the IC1 are blown also, so I ordered a new one from ebay. Since i dont really need the fw400 the blown diode arent that imortant i guess.
