RME fireface 800. Help finding a component

Hi,

I recently bought a defected Fireface. The problem seems to be on the firewire input/output. The module doesn't speak to my mac.

I opened it up and could see a missing, and probably burned component. The label says VD1202. Anyone with schematic or similar fireface who knows?

I wonder who plugged the firewire plug in upside down! I think you will find it is a dual smd 5v1 zener diode that has exploded because the wrong polarity has been connected. At least you have the satisfaction that the other bit of kit is probably destroyed as well. You will need to replace the IO port, IC1. Make sure the mask is the same or it won't work.

the burned part could be an esd protection device, or a CM filter or bias resistors. a cable short could have caused that. big chance that the 1394 chipo is toasted too. check if you see bias voltage on the small inductors in the data tracks leading to the burnt parts.

Interesting.

The I/O port are probably toasted too!
I tried those other firewire inputs, and it still doesn't speak to my mac. Sinse those other firewire ports doesn't go thru that thoasted component it would be fair to conclude that the I/O chip must go.

The chip name is 1394? Hopefully its easy to get.
